The short version

Your data lives in your iCloud private database (CloudKit). We never see it, never store it, never share it.

What we collect

Nothing on our servers. Lani is an offline-first iOS app. There are no accounts, no telemetry, no analytics SDKs, no third-party trackers.

Your data

Everything you create in Lani — tasks, routines, journal entries, finance data, meals, goals, reflections, health data, and so on — is stored locally on your device via SwiftData and synced through your personal iCloud account (CloudKit private database). Health data is also synced bidirectionally with Apple HealthKit when you grant permission.
Apple manages iCloud and HealthKit. Apple's privacy practices apply. We have no access to either.

Notifications

Lani uses local notifications, scheduled on your device. No push notification server is involved.

Compass insights

Compass generates insights by reading patterns across your tools — sleep, mood, workouts, routines, and so on. All of this happens on-device. No data is sent to the cloud for analysis. Some Compass features use Apple's on-device intelligence (the Foundation Models framework, which runs entirely on your iPhone with no network calls), and no third-party AI services are involved. The insights stay on your phone.

Purchases

Lani offers a 7-day free trial. After the trial, a subscription unlocks all features. Subscription purchases are handled by Apple via StoreKit — we never see your payment information. Apple shares with us only the anonymized subscription status needed to unlock features.

Permissions Lani may request

Every permission is optional, granted per-feature, and can be revoked any time in Settings → Privacy & Security. Data accessed under each permission stays on your device — Lani never uploads, transmits, or shares it.

HealthKit — Lani reads your workouts, body metrics, sleep, mood, and other health data, and writes back workouts you log so they appear in Apple Health.
Calendars — Lani syncs with your system calendar so your events appear in both places. Calendar data lives in Apple's Calendar, not Lani.
Contacts — used only to suggest invitees when you add someone to a calendar event. Contacts are never uploaded.
Camera — used to scan food barcodes for nutrition lookup. The camera feed isn't recorded.
Microphone & Speech Recognition — used for voice-to-text dictation in your journal. Transcription happens on-device.
Apple Music — lets you attach songs from your Apple Music library to journal entries. We don't read what you're listening to otherwise.
Photo Library (Add Only) — used to save workout share cards to your photos. Lani can't read your photo library.
Location (While In Use) — used to tag journal entries with where you were and to record GPS routes during outdoor cardio workouts. Lani doesn't track your location in the background.
Face ID — used to unlock the app and protect your journal. Biometric data never leaves your device — Apple handles the match.
Siri & App Intents — lets you trigger Lani actions hands-free. Voice queries are processed by Apple's Siri infrastructure, never by Lani.
Notifications — local only, scheduled on your device.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data. There's nothing to sell — we don't have it.
We don't show ads.
We don't use third-party analytics, crash reporting SDKs that include user content, or trackers.
We don't share data with anyone, ever.

Your rights

Because your data lives on your device and in your iCloud, you have full control:

Delete the Lani app to remove local data.
Sign out of iCloud or disable iCloud for Lani in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Apps using iCloud.
Revoke any individual permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security.

Children's privacy

Lani is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (and as noted, we do not collect data from anyone).

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll post the change here and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
